DesignerCon and more Prints!!!

I'll be at DesignerCon this weekend at Tony Bui/ Genuine HaHa's Booth #221.

SPX, totes, and more silkscreen stuff!!

     I did SPX'15 a few weeks ago and it was awesome!! I was hesitant driving to Maryland for hours but the travel was worth it. It's the best show I've done so far. I got to meet some awesome new artists and made new connections. I missed APE'15 this month, but hope to do more shows!! The more shows I do, the more confident I get of traveling more and showcasing more.

     The Wizard Cat tote bag was so well-received that it sold out!! It was great because it was my first time screenprinting anything that's not on paper. My arms were tired after since the paint was much, much thicker. But I did make another batch that is now available online.

     I added superheroines to my Mini Print collection- Captain Marvel, Sailor Mars, Wonder Woman, and SUPER Sailor Moon... which are also available online now too.

I also silkscreened some Kamen Riders- Gaim and Ghost. Please check out my store for new stuff.

     I started doing more silkscreen prints late last month and this month. This project is based on tokusatsu superheroes. The individual mini prints are now on sale.

Power Rangers @ the Cute Enemies art show

     I got to do the Cute Enemies Art Show that runs up to next month at Leanna Lin's Wonderland. It has a LOT of great art from insanely amazing artists depicting 'the cute side of villainy'. Tony Bui curated the show and assigned various pop-culture villains to the artists.

Lady Knight Vs Dragon (and CAB2014 re-cap)

     This silkscreen print debuted this past weekend at Comic Arts Brooklyn. I was very excited to get on this show having heard a lot of great things about it from the previous year. I did pretty well, considering I have never done it before. It was great to share the table (which were bigger than the usual festival tables!!) with one of my comic mentors, CM Butzer. I always learn something new from him. I'm hoping to be able to do it again next year! Yey.

     Prior to the fest, I tried to get as much done as possible. I had a lot of fun working on this project (being one of my many pet projects waiting on the wings) and finally got to print it.

     I did 5 color layers for this- white, magenta, yellow, black, and blue. As much as I love having 5+ layers on a silkscreen project, I should try to cap it maybe at 4 layers. It is so much work with little pay off sometimes depending on the project.

It was fun nonetheless.

The Qirin Hunter (progress)

The Qirin Hunter is finally done!

I've been working on this for the past few weeks.

And I finally got it done! Yey! Originally inspired by a design test I did.

Here are some work-in-progress pics compared with the finished pages.

It took awhile to figure out the final character designs.

Once I figured it out, it was all good.

It was definitely fun to do.

The zine will debut this coming Saturday, June 7th at the Grand Comics Festival.

A Chidren's Show

     I recently did a design test for a Children's show gear towards Indian youth. It was taking Indian Children's Rhyme and creating a world out of it. It was gonna be in the vein of Yo, Gabba Gabba and Mother Goose Club.

I, sadly, didn't get it but I had a blast doing the test.

However, it gave me some great addition to my portfolio.

 I've always loved Indian design aesthetics.

It was fun simplifying those in these characters.

 I actually did it twice. The first attempt was to "cartoon-y" for a live action show.

So, I altered the characters on the second attempt.

 They are more "Live-action" but still showed kid-friendly costumes.

I definitely did more than what I was asked... that's how much fun I was having with it!

     Hopefully, I'll get another opportunity to get to do it for real. Or I'll just make my own children's book with these characters.
